For No Good Reason
Community. Compassion. Connection.
Hello my name is Kendra. I started Doing Good for No Good Reason in 2011, because I wanted to volunteer and found it difficult to find an organization that didn’t have a waiting list, or that would allow me to serve the way I could.
I didn’t have a lot of money or time to give, but I wholeheartedly wanted to do good.
Doing Good started out as a simple social media initiative to connect my friends, and their friends, to ways to do good. We fed the homeless, did toy drives, raised money for bus passes, collected gently used clothes, toys, blankets and anything else we could to give back to our community. In the beginning it was just me and about 13 volunteers working out of my little studio making 75 plates of food to give away to the homeless. Now we have grown to a network of about 300 volunteers and we serve 300-400 hot meals every month.
What We Do
We want to do good, and if you want to do good too- we want to help make it as easy as possible for you. That is why we are not affiliated with any other organization or institution- we aim to serve many organizations rather than just one. We know that doing good doesn’t look one way and there are so many worthy causes to contribute to so we work together with people like you, to contribute to as many as possible. Some of the organizations we have worked with:
We partner with One Heart for Women and Children to serve a hot Meal to 300-400 homeless and impoverished families here in Orlando- the last Sunday of every month. We always need people to cook and help us serve!
Every Christmas we adopt families from the Boys and Girls Club, One Heart for Women and Children and other organizations! You could donate, or adopt a child or adopt a whole family!
Check out our Calendar for more upcoming events!
Do you have an idea for a way to do good, but you don’t know how to make it a reality? Tell us about your idea and see if we can help! Check out our Special Projects page ßlink to special projects , to see how we have helped others in the past make their doing good dream a reality.
Building a School in Burkina Faso, Africa
This is Trace. (Include trace and kleckners picture)We met Christmas of 2014 when he, and his mom (Kim) and dad (Mike), joined us to feed the homeless. When I told the volunteers I wanted to help them do good, whatever that looked to like them. Trace raised his hand and said “I think it’s only $30,000 to build a school in Africa.” From that moment on I knew I needed to build that school with/for Trace. AS of April 1, 2015 our fundraising efforts have begun and our target is to complete our fundraising and build the school by May of 2016
We have partnered with BuildOn an awesome organization that builds schools in some of the poorest countries all over the world. We will build a school in Burkina Faso, the UN ranked fifth poorest country with one of the lowest literacy rates. Access to education is limited, and often when there are teachers and students, they are learning in grass/mud shacks which are not conducive to a healthy learning environment. We want to help make access to safe education a possibility for the Burkinabe.
